Commissions

SO you are tired of living with empty walls in your place and it just started to bug you that you don't have anything inspiring there.

Maybe you've been stuck at home and noticed that you have nothing on your walls. Maybe you already have an art collection that you'd like to add to with a custom piece. Maybe you love the artists work, but he/she doesn't currently have any original paintings you are in love with so you are thinking of commissioning one of your own.

There are many different reasons clients work with artists for a piece.

It is an easy process and I can walk you through it.

First we have a discovery call so I can hear your hopes and dreams about your piece. In this call I'd need to have the following info, or at least a general idea: ideal size of piece, range of budget, what substrate you want it on (canvas vs wood panel), how large is the wall you are placing this piece on and what furniture is around it, what room it will be going into, and if there are any images that you'd like me to pull inspiration from or reproduce in my style of painting. This is the brainstorming phase. I will work with you to kick around ideas and make suggestions until we can come up with a direction that suits your budget and meets your needs before moving on to Phase 2.

Phase 2 : Mini Painting

With the direction that I've been given, I will create a mini painting on oil paper to show you the composition and range of color's I'd use in the larger piece. I can take in suggestions at this time before I start on the piece. Ideally I'd like to hear you gleefully on the phone letting me know how excited you are to see the original and to go paint.

Phase 3:Painting your piece

This would be a good time to let you know how oil paint dries. Depending on thickness, oil paint can be touch dry from 1 week to 1 month, but won't be fully dry until 6 months to 1 year. This means that you will still be able to smell the oil drying when you receive the piece and it would be good to have air moving through the room at this time. The smell will dissipate as it fully dries.

Now since oil takes this long to become touch dry enough to ship, the timeframe for the piece to be painted and ship ready would be 3-4 months from approval of the mini painting. We will have a virtual call so that I can reveal your piece to you. If you are around the Bay Area, I can have you come to my studio to see the piece in person.

Phase 4: Shipping and Final payment

Before I start the mini painting, I request 50% down of the project. The rest is due at the time of shipping. I use art shippers to properly protect the piece to ensure it makes it to your destination the way it was intended.

As with original pieces and art prints, do not place works in direct sunlight as this can and will damage your piece. Just think about hardwood floors that get direct sunlight, not pretty after a few years.

And that's about it!

If you'd like to have a conversation with me about a project, I'm all ears...
